A nasty, raw, wet morning. Not much like April. Dot came soon after 10am and took N to do the shopping. Jane went to wash up at a W.I. party in Childer Thornton and got paid £3 so not bad. A chiropodist from Sutton is coming to have a look at my feet. Hope she will be able to do something with them. Went for a run round by the Old Mill but didn't see anyone I knew. It was lovely down the old lane today.

A nice, sunny morning with a light wind, but still a bit on the cold side. A sore on toe started to flare up again. They are a pest but must battle on. A man came finally yesterday to ask us when the gas heating was last serviced. I was able to give him the exact date as I had it down in my diary. The M.W.E.B man came and emptied the meter. There was £34 and N got £6 rebate. It is the heaviest quarter so not too bad. N gone to the library and to do a bit of shopping.

A cloudy wet morning but the rain went off later but still cold. Poor old Mrs Pinagar died at the weekend. I think she was 86 years old. N gone to the village to pay the water rates. Five hundred and fifty relatives of those killed in the Falklands war have gone there to see the graves. A sad journey for them. Went for a nice little run down the High Road, down Hadlow Road and back through Willaston. They are starting to build on the old smithie site. The painters finished painting the bungalows.

Some sunshine and some April showers and the wind still cold. Went and got two gallons of petrol from the village. N has gone to Neston to get her hair done and do a bit of shopping. The painters back this morning after the holidays. The water rates bill came this a.m. It's gone up by £8 a year. N gone to Dot's on the two p.m. bus instead of tomorrow. The painter doing the front window. A gang have pinched six million from some place in London. The chiropodist rang to make an appointment for the 1st of May at 3.30pm so that's good.

A typical April morning, sunshine and showers and a light but cold wind. Liverpool are playing away today at Man City. Gave the car engine a run to warm it. N been doing the ironing. A lot of big marches this weekend in protest against the atomic weapons both here and in Scotland. Liverpool won 0-4 and Everton beat Stoke 3-1. N rang Mrs Roe. Fred is doing well. The warden called N on the intercom and told her she couldn't contact the lady next door but N saw her going out in her car to see her sister in hospital. Son called her up and told the warden.

A nice, sunny morning again with a light wind, but still cold. Liverpool beat Sunderland 1-0 at Anfield yesterday. Frank just on the phone to N. They are coming to see us this p.m. so we will be in for a detailed report on the actions of a party by the name of May. As expected, poor May took a lot of stick again. The gang came and had tea with us. N cooked a lovely dinner for us all. She does work very hard to cook such lovely meals. The girls bought be a packet of wagon wheels.

A lovely, sunny morning, dry but the wind still cold. Went for a run along the High Road, up Hadlow Road and through Willaston. Saw Mattie and Kitt having a natter so pulled up to ask Mattie how Len was. She said they didn't know if they will have to operate yet. I hope they don't. Kitt gave me £3 she owed to N. N has gone on the 1 p.m. bus to see Girlie. She took some daffodils out of the front garden to put on my mother's and Wilf's graves. She is very good.

Friday, April 1 1983

A dull, cold, cloudy day. Dry with a light wind. Had a bath after breakfast. Ron comes back from Scotland tonight. Been there a week watching for eagles. No painters today. It's Good Friday. N gone to see if she can get some chips. Ron got back safe and sound last night. He is mending his fence today. Fan rang N up. She said they will be coming for an hour this p.m. They came at 3.30 and went home at 5.30 p.m. It was very nice to see them again. It's a long while since they last came.

Wednesday, March 31, 1982

Dull and cloudy this morning but no wind. Liverpool beat Birmingham 3-1 last night at Anfield and go second in the League. The American space ship landed safely at 5pm yesterday. Got Bibby pension this a.m. It's now £26.34 per month. The water rates bill also came and it's gone up to over £50.30 per year. It's disgusting. There seems to be some trouble brewing with Argentina and us over the Falkland Islands. We are sending warships out there so I hope it doesn't lead to using force. N gone to Dot's on the two bus. Had a chat with the new road man. He turned out to be one of the Ashingtons. I knew his dad well.
